Radiology:
Our Radiology services moved into the twenty first century digital age in 1999 by purchasing a Fuji CR - the only digital CR system available at that time. With this purchase we were able to offer high quality Teleradiology, which is the ability to send films over a telephone line. In 2003, we purchased space technology - the ATL/Phillips HDI 5000 Ultrasound machine is used in space flight to observe changes in blood flow due to a weightless environment. ECMC purchased the HDI 5000 to ensure high quality vascular and cardiac studies for our patients. ECMC Radiology is trying very hard to offer the same if not better exam quality and patient care than surrounding facilities.
CT or CAT Scans: Short for Computed Tomography, this is a computerized picture of many very small X-Ray pictures. Lying on a moving table, inside a round X-Ray tube, the table and X-Ray tube both move showing a 360-degree picture or slice of the human body. This is repeated several times to cover any area of interest.
Teleradiology: This is the ability to send Radiographic and CT scan images to Salina Regional Medical Center via phone line for reading of cases dealing with extreme emergencies.
Ultrasound: Using sound waves similar to sonar, a more detailed picture of small soft tissues is produced. It is also capable of taking pictures and measuring blood flow through your arteries, veins, and/or heart.
Nuclear Medicine: By introducing small doses of radioisotopes, organ functions can be measured. It is also used to diagnose certain types of cancer. This service is available every Wednesday.
Mammography: Detailed radiographic pictures of the breast are used to help detect breast cancer in the early stages.
Osteoporosis: This machine measures the density of bone. With this information we can measure a person’s risk of increasing frequency of bone fractures.
MRI (magnetic resonance imaging): With the use of a high powered magnet we are able to create images of the soft tissues, mostly joints. This technology is now expanding into the ability to create 3D images of the vascular system in our heads and body to identify blocked arteries. This is available on Monday mornings.
