The laboratory takes care of the collection and analysis of blood and other body fluids using high-tech equipment to aid them in the testing and reporting of results.

A Medical Technologist or a Medical Laboratory Technician, both of which require special training and national certification, maintain and operate the equipment and interpret the results to aid the physician in making an accurate diagnosis.

Laboratories are inspected regularly by the State Department of Health and Human Services and have minimum requirements that are mandatory to stay in service, such as quality control and proficiency testing on each analyte that is performed.

The laboratory not only provides its services to the hospital; it also provides testing and collection services to outpatients, nursing homes, and medical clinics in the surrounding areas.
