Dr. Ronald Whitmer:

     A Wilson native who spent many years away from Ellsworth County, but came back to start his private practice. Dr. Whitmer received his Doctor of Osteopathy Degree in 1979 from the University of Health Sciences. Before that, he worked as an HSCP medical technologist at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City. 

     As far back as high school, Dr. Whitmer dreamed of becoming a doctor. He also enjoyed being a part of his family’s farm operation and still does to this day. After graduating from high school, Dr. Whitmer attended Fort Hays State University, graduating with a degree in chemistry. He then did a one year teaching fellowship at Wichita State University.

     Dr. Whitmer joined the Air Force where he attended officer’s training. He spent five and one half years in the service and then entered the University Of Arkansas School Of Medical Technology. After working as a medical technologist at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, he began medical school. After graduating, Dr. Whitmer continued his education with an internship at Lakeside Hospital in Kansas City.

     Dr. Whitmer is a past president of the Kansas Association of Osteopathic Medicine. He is also the medical director of the Wilson Nursing Home. What he enjoys most about being a physician is caring for his patients. He also has a unique hobby of flying planes. He has a pilot’s license and is working toward getting his instrument rating for flying in cloudy weather.
